General information
Smart Energies is a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) specializing in the development, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects across Europe. Established in 2012, Smart Energies evolved from the former SPTI group, which boasted a rich history in the oil industry during the 20th century (import-export, refining, distribution). Demonstrating foresight, the group entirely divested from fossil fuels in the 1980s to prioritize alternative sectors, with a particular focus on renewable energy and hydroelectric power.
Our Expertise
Smart Energies is committed to expanding its portfolio of solar and energy storage projects, with a strong emphasis on:
- Solar rooftops
- Ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) systems
- Solar carports
- BESS
- Hybrid energy solutions
We primarily operate in Europe, with key markets in France, Italy, Greece, and the Nordic countries.
Operational Excellence
As of January 2025, Smart Energies owns and operates over 650 renewable energy plants, with more than 160 MW either operational or under construction. Our growing portfolio reflects our dedication to accelerating the energy transition and providing sustainable power solutions across our markets. Our target is to reach 600 MWp by 2028.
Ownership Structure
Smart Energies is owned by the historical shareholders (a family office), alongside prominent investment partners. To achieve its objectives, Smart Energies has completed two successive rounds of fundraising in 2022 and 2024, totaling €107 million in equity.
Additionally, the company is partially owned by its management team and employees, underscoring a shared commitment to driving the organization’s vision forward.
Vision and Mission
At Smart Energies, we want to become a key leader in Europe’s energy transition, by facilitating access to photovoltaics and energy storage.
